Local Governing Body Members Needed
We have an exciting opportunity for two members of the community to join our Local Governing Body at Trumpington Community College, a co-educational, 11-16 academy school in Cambridge. Trumpington Community College was inspected by Ofsted in November 2023. Following this, the Governors are pleased to say that the school was rated ‘Good’ overall, with inspectors noting that it is ‘Outstanding’ in two areas: quality of education and leadership and management.
School Governors play a crucial role in the strategic leadership of the school and as such we are excited to welcome further colleagues to support us in the next stage of our journey. Governors work in partnership with the Principal and Senior Leadership Team to deliver our vision to bring out the best in everyone. The Local Governing Body (LGB) is supported by an experienced Governance Professional.
Supported by the United Learning trust of which we are part, the Governors’ role is wide-ranging and includes agreeing the School Improvement Plan; deciding how the school budget will be set; monitoring pupil progress and attainment; recruiting teachers and staff and agreeing school policies.
Governors are expected to attend five full governing body meetings per year, as well as participating in school visits to support and challenge the school’s leadership. Full Governor meetings are held after school hours, usually at 4.00pm.
The Local Governing Body welcomes applications from everyone and see the value of the different experiences and skills each applicant will bring to the table. Knowledge of finance, human resources, education and audit and risk are welcome but not essential and, if you possess skills and / or an interest in Special Educational Needs we would particularly love to hear from you.
A diverse governing board will help children from all backgrounds to succeed and thrive; it allows us to create a culture of inclusion, challenge barriers, biases and stereotypes, and provide a wide range of role models for our pupils. We encourage all members of the local community, regardless of age, experience and background, to apply for this role.
All Governors are required to undergo a Disclosure & Barring Check (DBS). The DBS check enables organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors to make safe recruitment decisions.
